The Proposal-

May 24th, 2025:

Over Memorial Day Weekend 2025, Meghan and Stephen planned a trip to visit Meghan’s family at her favorite place, her grandma’s house on Cayuga Lake. When Stephen’s parents asked to join, Meghan had her first hint that something special might be happening.

That Saturday was one of the coldest, rainiest Memorial Day weekends the Finger Lakes had ever seen. Despite the weather, Meghan’s family had rented a boat, and Meghan was determined to pick it up so it would be ready just in case the skies cleared. Before heading to dinner reservations that night, Meghan’s mom insisted she get dressed and ride with her dad to bring the boat back to the dock. Protesting that she would freeze and ruin her outfit, Meghan went anyway.

As they pulled in, Meghan spotted red balloons, candles, and Stephen smiling and waving from the deck. In that moment, everything clicked. Neither of them remembers many of the words exchanged through the nerves, except Stephen gently saying, “It’s raining,” as he took her hand. The moment he got down on one knee, the rain stopped, and cheers erupted from nearby docks.

Meghan and Stephen hope that memory will always symbolize their life together, that even in the rainiest moments, they will have each other to quiet the storm.
